First Tickets Sold as Yankee Doodle Fair Begins
The ticket booth at the Westport Woman Club’s Yankee Doodle Fair was busy at tonight’s 6:00 PM opening. Returning after the pandemic lockdowns, the fair will run in the Imperial Avenue parking lot through Sunday night. Tonight and tomorrow the rides will run from 6-10 PM, Saturday 1-10 PM, and Sunday 1-5PM. In addition to the carnival rides, the fair also includes live music, food, games, and raffle prizes that all fund the Westport Woman’s Club’s philanthropic projects around the community.

Westport Rotary's Lobsterfest a “Smashing Success” Once Again
The 2021 Rotary Lobsterfest, arguably Westport's biggest party of the year, was held Saturday at Compo Beach on a beautiful September afternoon under sunny blue skies.
The event, which sold out completely once again for it's 10th year and was limited only by it's attendance permit and how many lobsters could be cooked per hour. They served 2,400 lobsters, 330 steaks and 325 children's dinners. Fresh clams and oysters on the half shell were offered by Norwalk's Copp's Island Oysters.
A small army of volunteers, including town officials and those aspiring to become town officials, kept the beer and wine flowing and tables cleared. Families enjoyed great entertainment for their children, and craft spirits for the adults. Live music kept dancers on their feet. All and all, another lively and successful event for the community by the the Westport Rotary - which raised more that $100,000 (final figures not yet available) for their programs and charities.

Westport Library Book Sale Planned for October 8th - 11th

This Book Sale offers something for everyone, with thousands of gently used books in over 40 categories, including children’s books, from infants to teens; literature and classics; fiction, mysteries, and SciFi/fantasy; nonfiction including art, photography, history, math, science, psychology, religion, biography, business, cooking, gardening, performing arts, travel, foreign language and more, including Noteworthy, especially antiquarian books. A broad selection of DVDs, CDs, and vinyl records will also be available.
Book sale hours:
Friday, Oct. 8th from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
Sunday Oct. 10th, hours are Noon to 5:00 p.m., and everything will be half-price.
Monday Oct. 11th hours are 9:00 a.m. to Noon, and shoppers can fill our Logo bag for $5 per bag, or buy individual books at half-price.
Admission to the sale is free.

Of special interest for this sale:
Music lovers will find an expanded selection of books and sheet music for all musicians, including music from hit Broadway shows, and books about George Gershwin and Cole Porter; adult and youth Choir music; and a large selection of method books for students of piano, strings, woodwind and brass.
History buffs will be impressed by a recent donation of a vast collection of military history books, in addition to our usual broad selection of books exploring American and world history and politics. Military history volumes include a strong World War II component, among which are several uncommon titles, and scarce periodicals and works about specific weapons and aircraft.
Fans of author and former long-time local resident Erica Jong will find books donated from her personal library, including author-signed presentation copies to Jong, many of which are also signed by Jong, as well as books authored and signed by Jong.
Our foreign language selection includes a large number of new books in Nordic languages, such as Norwegian and Swedish.
Collectors can look forward to our offering of noteworthy and antiquarian books. A catalog of a representative sampling of “Specials” will be published on the Book Sale’s website prior to the sale.
COVID safety measures continue to be in effect. Every person over 2 years of age is required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth at all times while inside the Library. Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance to the sale, and at various stations throughout the Library. Patrons are asked to maintain social distance as much as possible. Capacity will be monitored in conformity with COVID and fire marshal regulations applicable at the time.

Westport-Weston Health District will become the Aspetuck Health District
From the Westport Weston Health DistrictMark Cooper, Director of Health for the Westport Weston Health District, announced today that the Board of Directors voted on September 13, 2021 to rename the Health District. Effective January 1, 2022, the agency will be known as the Aspetuck Health District. Easton formally joined the Health District on July 1st, creating the need to be more inclusive and rebrand.
Mr. Cooper notes that the name change brings the Health District back to its roots. The Aspetuck Valley Health District was created in 1965 under Chapter 368f of the Connecticut General Statutes by the vote of the legislative bodies of Westport and Weston who had a long history of working together to better the public health in their communities. It was the first Health District created and recognized in the State of Connecticut. Creation of the District transferred upon the Health District’s Board of Directors all the public health authority that had been previously conferred upon each municipality.
The Health District operated as the Aspetuck Valley Health District until January 1, 1983, when the Board of Directors changed the name to the Westport Weston Health District for the purposes of easier identification as to who the District served.
Over the next few months, the Health District will complete the necessary steps of notifying the State of Connecticut, updating account names, the website, and other tasks.
